It’s not that far, but we act like it is. Lake Tahoe is just up the mountain. . . not very far at all. We have lived here 11 years, but Paul and I have never hiked at Tahoe together. But that is no longer true.
On Memorial Day, we (gladly) left Allie home alone to work on an English project
and headed up to the lake to go on a hike.
We drove over to the West shore
and stopped at Vikingsholm.
Springtime is a wonderful time to take a hike here. The water was running high and it wasn’t too hot.
It was hard to take a BAD picture because it is so beautiful there.
We didn’t seen another person on our way down to the lakefront.
Vikingsholm is a wonder to see! It is at the edge of Emerald Bay. In the bay, there is the only island in Lake Tahoe. (Can you see it?)
I wondered what kind of view the former occupants got when they looked out their front windows and I was impressed!
From there we wandered around the property and found the path to Lower Eagle Falls. Even before we found the path, we could hear the roar of the water.
We could really feel our age catching up with us. We were huffing and puffing but it was so worth it!
We still had to make our way back DOWN this trail and walk back up the steep trail to the parking lot.
We were grateful to see strategically placed benches along the path as we were trudging back up. Funny how we didn’t notice them on the way down!
It was fun to watch (as we were resting) all the little kids who were running down the hill with their parents chasing them. We could only imagine those same parents making their way back up the hill with those same kids either on their shoulders or in their arms.
It felt like our first outing as empty nesters even though we aren’t quite there yet. *sniff sniff*
Wonder where we’ll explore next!!!! (We are open to suggestions)
