How We Celebrate!

How does one celebrate Veteran’s Day?  I dunno what the “appropriate” way is, but we chose to go on a county adventure.

We wanted to check out a nearby county and DO something there.  So we hoped in the car and took off . . .

And went out to eat!  This restaurant got some good reviews from what we could find.

DSCN0541

The menu was nothing too special . . .

DSCN0544

We ordered some sandwiches and a shake to share.DSCN0546  It wasn’t terrible but it’s doubtful that we would make the drive again just to eat here!

On the way home, we drove through the town to check it out.DSCN0550DSCN0551DSCN0552

It made us feel like we live in the BIG city!  The best part of the jaunt was hanging out with each other and enjoying the beauty of the world around us!

So what do YOU do to celebrate Veteran’s Day?

TOFW

I was lucky enough to be asked to help out with Time Out For Women and I agreed to take it on.

It consisted of telling everyone about it in as many ways as I could think of and to be a “good” resource.  I tried.

In addition to that, I was to help out at the event with whatever assignment came my way.

In return, I got a free ticket and got to pick out a seat for me and a friend before the crowds descended.

Because it was a two day dealio, Paul and I splurged and got a hotel room near the airport.

DSCN0437DSCN0438

He dropped me off for my evening duties.  Sound checks and rehearsal were going on when I arrived!

DSCN0440

I got to hang out with a great group of ladies.  We prepared for the onslaught by folding up programs and preparing bags.  We learned about our assignments . . . mine was a door greeter and picked out seat.

It was a great meeting.

The next day, I again arrived early and got to work.  But I also got “fed” spiritually . . .

DSCN0441DSCN0443DSCN0444

DSCN0450I escaped at lunch time with a friend.  We rushed to beat the crowds . . .

DSCN0446

We spent some time at the “photo booth” with others that we knew and loved. . .

I’m so glad I got to go.  (Don’t worry about Paul . . .he went bird watching north of Reno!)

Candy Dancin’

I have liked making crafts in the past but it’s no longer my season.  So why on earth would we go to Candy Dance?

We don’t like to pay for parking so we get to have a nice walk into town. . . .

DSCN0326

If our kids were with us (and were a lot younger), this would have been fun for them . . .

DSCN0327

It wasn’t even that crowded . . .

DSCN0328

Sometimes I get ideas for crafts that I will never make . . .

DSCN0330But then we remembered why we go . . . the food including the traditional funnel cake . . .

DSCN0329

But mostly it’s just nice to hang out together!

VC

It’s been years and years and years since we had been to Virginia City so it seemed like a mid week trip might be nice.

We didn’t expect it to be so so cold in September. . . there were traces of snow (whine whine whine)

DSCN0319

To explore the town the right way, we figured we should know where we were going and what things were . . . so we found a map.

DSCN0310

But we couldn’t carry that with us!  So we stopped by the visitor’s center where we found more information than we wanted.

DSCN0311

We left on our own map!

DSCN0312

I got to put images in my mind of places I’ve heard of for years but didn’t really know what they looked like.

DSCN0307

DSCN0308

DSCN0313

There were historical markers all over the place!

DSCN0315

DSCN0316

but there were also A LOT of places we didn’t want to go visit (most of which were not picture worthy)

DSCN0317

and there was no avoiding my very least favorite big Reno event . . . Street Vibrations in which motorcycle riders take over the roads and everything else.  (Who knew there was a special event in Virginia City on this very day?  Obviously not us!)

DSCN0314

It was a great day and a great way to spend our family anniversary.  We had another county adventure and spent time together . . . and we managed to leave before the crowds got too big.

A Labor Day Adventure

It was time to conquer another county and hit the road for a day trip.. . .
DSCN0071
We went to “discover” gold . . .DSCN0074
and bird watch . .
DSCN0077
and check out the museum displays.
DSCN0079
Eureka, we found it!
DSCN0082DSCN0092DSCN0093
It was no surprise what our next stop was . . .
DSCN0095
and most of the traffic was going the other way!

It was a fun day trip!

Summer Vacation

Some people take big trips during the summer but we contain it to four days . . . and two of those are driving days!

We decided to be adventurous and drive across the 50. . .

100_9891100_9897100_9899

Pretty it was . . . and empty it was . . .  it was so lonely that there were bike riders in the middle of nowhere!

100_9901

It was so boring that I fell asleep for most of it.  We had a “county adventure” planned in Eureka county and stopped for lunch there.

100_9902100_9905100_9907We had another county adventure planned after that . . . in some county that we might have enjoyed if I was awake so I could let Paul know when to stop!  Oops!100_9914

Since I was no good at helping the driver (aka Paul) stay awake, I depended on Harry Potter to do that job.

100_9916

I was awake once we crossed into Utah and we opted to do a spur of the moment county adventure and stop at a park (which was perfect for stretching our legs . . . sleeping is hard work, dontcha know?

100_9917100_9923

But we weren’t at our final destination yet . . . not even the one before that. .  there was more lonely road to drive (but boy, was it pretty!)

100_9928

We “had” to stop for dinner and you’d never guess where that was (which was our second to last destination.)  Yummo!

100_9929

And then we arrived at our destination . . . our private hotel!

The next day, we were able to hook up with David for breakfast.  (darn that crazy work schedule)

100_9931

100_9932

I was able to convert more followers to THE best shave ice around . . .

100_9935100_9936

and we went to the movies!

100_9938

Our lives seem to revolve around food . . . we were treated to a super good Brazilian restaurant . .. and I forgot to document any of it until dessert time . . .

100_9941100_9942

The next day found us boating . . .

100_9950

Our nephew knows what he is doing!

100_9954

It’s nice being out on the boat because we get to leave everything else behind . .. no phone calls, no emails, etc. . .

100_9960100_9967

Scott is kind enough to chauffeur us . . .

100_9964

he even gave Paul some lessons on how to get UP which hadn’t happened yet . . .

100_9973

and it paid off!

100_9979

It’s fun hanging out with this bunch . . .

100_9981

After boating is wiping everything down . . . no wonder the boat always looks so sharp. . . .

100_9990

It was a wonderful day!

100_9983

The next day we headed home . . .

100_9992

We were thankful to John Grisham for keeping us both awake (okay, mostly Paul.)

100_9995

Since we were still on vacation, we tossed in another county adventure and stopped at a museum along the way. . . .

100_9996101_0003

and a spot to bird watch . . .

101_0018

It was a great get-a-way for us

100_0023

and the next day we had to turn the rental car in.
