Winnemucca Lake
It was Labor Day and the weather was GREAT so we decided to go on a hike. I had heard from lots of people that there was an awesome hike not too far away, so off we went.
We were happy that our turn off wasn’t too much farther. . .
Paul checked out his map to see which way we were going to go. . .
Kit Carson Pass Marker
The map at the beginning of the trail . .
It was so pretty. We are so lucky to live close to all this. . .
I *saw* object lessons all over the place (just think of the things that you could teach with the picture below) while Paul saw birds.
Frog Lake . . .
Caples Lake in the distance . . .
Even though it was September, we found snow!
Another object lesson, if you ask me. . .
More snow ahead. .
We made it!
It was so beautiful . .
We made it! I hadn’t realized how dusty the trail was until we got home. Check out my shoes!
After I cleaned one of my shoes. . .
It was a great day. It was so nice to get out of the house and see some of what Heavenly Father created. We are so fortunate to live so close to places like this!

A Proud Father Moment
Yes, I do realize that our dog is not our child. But we also have no children at home . . . sometimes you have to substitute!
It was quite obvious that our puppy found something interesting to her in a wood pile. . .
Upon investigation, Paul discovered that a rock pigeon was in there. He debated whether he should save the bird or not (they like to nest in the entire neighborhood’s eaves). But before he could come to a conclusion, our puppy flushed the bird and the rest is history. . .
But all she did was catch and kill it. Then she lost interest. (But her favorite things EVER are feathers. She will bring a single one inside to chew on.)
Paul’s eyes welled up with tears. . . it was so cute. (No picture of that. . . sorry) He was so proud of our puppy. Her first catch in 8 years.

The Last Open House
It was time to hit the road AGAIN. For homebodies, we sure were leaving a lot!
We headed to Sacramento. I loved his antenna ball!
Up to the lake and down into California. . . ![]()
to hop on a plane! My assigned seat was the very back corner. I would not recommend it, if you have any choice at all.
Napping, reading and snacking helped pass the time . . .
We arrived in Dayton around midnight. The newlyweds barely beat us, after having traveling adventures including getting bumped from their flight (and collecting travel vouchers to make amends.)
We stayed with Samuel’s family which was handy since it was the site of the open house.
A b.e.a.u.tiful cake!
The tables looked GREAT. . .
The buffet table was decorated along with the stairs and surrounding area. . .
They helped Jennifer get ready. .
and had lots of favors to take home. .
We were grateful to be able to attend and get to know Samuel’s family better. They were fun to be around ![]()
But we had to get home. . .
had a layover in Chicago. ..
and amused myself on the plane with random things. . .
and headed back up the lake and back down the mountain.
It was a nice event but made for a very long weekend (less than 1 1/2 days in Ohio). It was a fun end to all the celebrating. . .
